Sedona Bound

I love the desert.  I love the ocean.  I love the mountains.  I’ve spent some time in Colorado, I’ve spent some time in California and I’ve spent an awful lot of time in Florida.  I’ve driven through the desert, but never really parked it anyplace except Vegas.  And frankly, I don’t really care if I ever go to Vegas again.

This is my friend Christine.  She’s at Burning Man.  It’s in Black Rock City, Nevada.  That’s a place in Nevada I will go to someday.  But Vegas again?  Nope.  Don’t want to do it.  I love this photo of her.  I actually love all the photos I’ve seen from Burning Man.  But that’s another vacation yet to come.

This time on Saturday to be exact, we will be flying into Vegas.  The reason for that is that’s where Allegiant flys into for the best deal.  Immediately we will pick up our car and drive to Flagstaff.  Once there we are spending the night and getting up the next day to view the Grand Canyon.  That will be awesome.  I’ve never seen it.  It’s time.

This is a girl trip.  My good friend (that I met at yoga years ago) and I are taking our daughters (who are 3 months apart in age) with us.  So if you were thinking about breaking into my house while I was gone, think again.  I’m leaving my husband and our son behind to guard my massive possessions.  Which would probably and sadly enough, fit in my Volvo.  And it’s not a wagon, it’s a four door.

After one night in Flagstaff and a view of the Grand Canyon for an entire day, we’ll head on over to Sedona.  I’ve wanted to go there for quite some time now.  We’ve got 4 nights in Sedona and I couldn’t be happier about that.  We hope to take a jeep ride into the desert.  We hope to get a great massage.  I hope to take in a great yoga class.  We will stop at Oak Creek Canyon.  We hope to eat some extremely tasty food.   We’re planning on checking out a gigantic Indian medicine wheel on a nearby reservation.  We will also take it easy.

I like vacations like this the best.  The easy kind.  The kind where there are no serious plans.  The kind where you just get up and decide what you want to do based on how everyone is feeling, or what the weather’s like.  I like vacations that aren’t too touristy.  I can tire of that pretty quickly.

I hope to get some great photographs and I hope to see the massive moon on the 19th.  It’s suppose to be amazing.  And guess what?  It’s suppose to be cloudy and rainy when we arrive.  But you know what?  I don’t care.  I’ll be on vacation and that’s a good thing no matter what the weather’s like.

Bon Voyage!

Get Your Groupon!

Whoa.

We just put out our second Groupon at the yoga studio where I teach.

If you have a small business I think Groupon is a cool way to spread the word.  Groupon is something you sign up for and it comes in your e-mail box almost every day when there’s a deal in your area.  You have about 24 hours I think to purchase the deal, then it closes.  We received a decent response from the first Groupon so we thought we’d try again.   This one was a different offering.  An offering of 24 classes for $24 with a six month expiration date.  Our response has been crazy.  So much that I actually had someone teach for me last night.

I know.  That’s pretty lame.  I taught 3 classes on Monday and in between each class all I did was this.  Answer my cell phone and return e-mails and texts from Groupon folks.  Tuesday was pretty much a rerun.  I only had one morning class on Tuesday.  After that I spent the rest of the day returning calls and e-mails.  I picked the kids up from school, I made dinner and did a little grocery shopping too.  Twice on the last one because I forgot something on the list like I always do.  Classic Kirsten style.  By the time my evening class came around I was exhausted.  I was supposed to teach at 6, but I let someone else do it for me.  I was spent and needed to wind down.

The phone has not quit ringing yet.  I decided to put up a  Groupon holder information page on our website to help with all of this talking.  It’s working.  People are e-mailing and sending a text message to reserve their spot in class.  Cool.  I like it when I have decent ideas and they actually work!

I am off from teaching all day tomorrow.  Good deal.  I will be able to use my cell here at the house instead of while I’m walking in to teach a class or driving down the road.  It’s amazing to see so many people interested in yoga.  I’ve been teaching a FREE class at the studio for two years now and though that class is large, it’s nothing like the fall out from the Groupon.  We sold a total of 448 and that’s quite a few.  I had no idea there were that many people in our area even interested in the practice.

One of us even received a phone call about whether nude yoga classes were available.  Not the first time that’s happened.  I think if anyone out there is interested in starting a nude yoga class, there’s a niche for it.  It might just be the million dollar income you’ve been looking for.  Don’t look for me to be teaching that one, but you just never know.  I might show up in your class.

Silver Springs

I love this song.  It’s been around for quite some time.  I suppose this song is about some other chick.  But I’ve always thought of the “she” in the song as alcohol, the drinking kind.

So when I hear it today and when I heard it way back then, I still think of alcohol, the drinking kind.  I wish everyone and anyone dealing with this problem, peace and wellness, now and always.  You deserve it.

I still think this is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard, even if it’s a sad one.
