Spontaneous Entertaining

I’m exhausted.  Maybe it’s from riding my bike to work four days in a row.  Maybe it’s from trying to dig a hole out of this clutter.  Maybe it’s from cleaning non-stop yesterday due to last minute company showing up!  I think number three did me in.  Our house is not large.  In fact, I think it’s the smallest home I’ve ever lived in.  Not a lot of closets, only one bathroom, one living space and a one car garage!  I like to be crafty, and my husband likes to “fix” things (electronics of all sorts, mowers, you name it).  This stuff takes space and sometimes, it really stresses me out.  More so, when I have last minute notice of “by the way, we’re having company for a cookout tonight!”

So, I cleaned and I cleaned.  Some things, just don’t look clean.  The hardwood in our front room has yet to be refinished, so it’s dull and pretty much lifeless.  We tore out our kitchen linoleum so we are down to the original flooring from 1954.  It’s the color of diarrhea decorated with paint and spackling.  One person actually thought it was stained concrete!  Bless…..that…..person!  We live in our house, and I do not mean that lightly!  It was a chore.  I got it clean.  It needed to be done.  Today I’m looking around here, actually glad we had company (as much as I wasn’t looking forward to it).

The visitors were friends of my husband, from KC.  They have a new baby, a little over a month old.  I was thankful, even though the house was clean that the baby wasn’t crawling.  I can’t picture a toddler in this place!  Danger, danger lurking everywhere.  We grilled pork chops and I wilted some baby spinach.  They’d never had it, and I could tell, they were hesitant to try it.  But they did, and they liked it.  I wilted it in a little bit of ghee, with some Indian spices and cummin seeds.  It went well with the pork.

Today was more entertaining.  We (the girls) did lunch and hit a flea market where I scored a cute little wine rack that will hold three bottles.  I have a super cool one that my dad made me out of horse shoes, but it’s large.  I really need to find a place for it, as it’s special to me!  After I got home, I was exhausted and couldn’t get motivated.  Slight problem when you’re entering a craft fair in Ozark the first weekend in October!  I just couldn’t focus and all I ended up doing, was carding some of my hair barrettes.  My sister, on the other hand is blazing.  She’s having to ship all her stuff here ahead of time.  There’s a West Elm store in her town.  They sell these bags of pods, unscented mind you, for $20.  Happens to be, she has a tree loaded with these in her backyard.  Score on the pods.  Bagged and ready to go, don’t they look good?

Tonight is Saturday night, and a beautiful one at that.  My husband will be at his workplace until closing or later.  The freaks come out on days like this.  Someone actually tried to run him over with their scooter today.  That’s just one incident.  I don’t know how he does it.  He’s into helping people and keeping them safe.  I guess I should be thankful that someone does that job, as I sit here blogging away!

Tomorrow is the Global Yoga Mala at 10:00 a.m.  This is the first time I’ve felt like skipping out.  I always bring the flowers for the event and today I hit Wal-Mart for cheap flowers.  I made a neat arrangement of white Mums, light yellow Carnations and orange Gerbera Daisies.  Lovely and therapeutic if I might add.  As of now, leading 27 sun salutes sounds absolutely atrocious.   I’m sure when I walk in the door of the Firehouse, my mood will lift.  The drums will be beating, people will be hugging and the vibe will be all around be good.  Nothing like a mala for renewal.  After all, tomorrow’s a brand new day!

Labors of Love, Art & Earth

My first mosaic, finished!!

My first mosaic, finished!!

I took advantage of the beautiful weather last night, (cooler with no humidity) to spray a couple coats of sealant on my table.

My husband made the comment (teasing as he does), “The flower isn’t centered.”

I came back (in my mind) with, “Neither are you.”

I didn’t do any measuring, I just freehanded and stuck stuff into adhesive.  All I know is this.  I was very centered when I made it and that’s all that matters!

I had to wait an hour for the sealant to dry, before I could re-apply.  I was already coated in bug spray, so I thought I might as well enjoy the weather and our deck.  I’m really getting into this book.  It’s an old book, like 1970’s but it actually seems timeless, like it could’ve been written yesterday.  I love it so far.

Then, I had a thought.  I had this book in my hand when I got pulled aside at the airport on our last trip  and searched.  Probably not the best book to carry on an airplane, but who knows.  Perhaps it didn’t have anything to do with it.

Check out that great tomato from our garden!

The Cat is in the Bead Box!

The church across the street is getting a new roof.  The banging is loud, the workers are worse!  I can hear almost everything they say from my front porch, the church is across the street and 3 doors down.  I like to get up early in the summertime, so I’m not really minding the wake up call.  What a job to be doing in this heat!  They start around 5 a.m. and are done by 1 p.m., can’t blame them.  The roof is very, very steep as well.  I’m thankful someone isn’t afraid to tackle it.

The class I subbed went great last night, small crowd but dedicated and very serious!  Twas odd teaching in the evening as I haven’t done that on a regular basis, but I will very soon – every Tuesday night!

I had lots of help in the jewelry department yesterday!  I don’t know how I got as much done as I did.  He likes to steal the beads and play with them!  I like the company of cats though!

Thought for the day:  If you have enough money for today – you will be OK!!!!

Sharks Teeth, Web Sites and Yoga, Oh My

I am subbing this evening.  Never subbed for this class before, and frankly I am looking forward to it!  Started the morning out with what else?  YOGA.  Then enjoyed a damn near two hour breakfast with my friend that I practiced with.  Turns out, she has lots of gardens and so do I.  So on Wednesday, she will eat dinner with us and we will trade plants!  I’m excited to see what she brings.

I am entering a craft fair in October in Ozark, MO this year.  I recently sold almost all of my jewelry at the family reunion.  We had an auction and man did it go.  The kids loved the sharks teeth necklaces.  So yesterday, since we have no money to do anything else, I searched around for what I could do.  Make jewelry is what I came up with.  It required being indoors, it was like 96 yesterday!  Got a lot accomplished.

I did the jewelry between breaks from web site designing.  Just got the front page up for a yoga teacher friend who is starting a Registered Yoga School (RYS) here in our town!  No more travel to KC or STL for lots of people, how nice it will be!  I am not a web site designer by schooling.  It all started way back when I owned my video store.  I needed a web site and I didn’t want to pay $3,000 for one.  So, I played and figured it out!  Since then, I’ve designed 5 other sites for friends with small businesses.  It’s such a great challenge and a good learning experience for me.  Plus, I dig the computer and I might as well be using it in a constructive and positive fashion!

My daughter is busy attending Farm Camp this week and my son is busy sleeping late.  I believe we are off to go order yet another discus.  He’s a record breaking track and field star and you may see him in the olympics someday!!!
