Spring Yoga Mala 2010

Spring Yoga Mala once again!  Join us on March 21, Sunday from 3:00 6 :00 p.m. at the Hammons Tower Club for 108 sun salutes!  We will move through 4 sets of 27 sun salutations with a short break between each set.  Instead of hangin’ out and snackin’ on the breaks, hydrate and join us as we break out in a Kirtan (call and response style).  Beth and friends will be chanting the Sanskrit mantras and Eric will accompany her on the drums.

Curious?  Come check it out.  Do a sun salute, do 50, or just sit and meditate on the vibration.  Event is free with a suggested donation of $15.  All proceeds collected will be sent to Ramana’s Garden in India where a couple of yoga students are working right now!  Event is family-friendly and babysitting will be provided free of charge if you’re in need.

This may be the only chance you ever have to wear your “day pajamas” in the Tower Club.  Physical address is 901 St. Louis Street, Springfield, MO.

See you on the 22nd floor on Sunday!

Holiday Ramblings

The holidaze were busy, but quiet around here if that makes any sense.  We had sporadic internet service.  Our phone was fixed on the 28th.  It turns out the technician crimped a wire when he slammed our phone box shut.  It’s all good now.  I’m even doing the yoga community e-newsletter as I blog away.  Let’s hope the internet holds up.  Seems to go down in the middle of the night.  So I was thinking about not sleeping tonight, just to see if I can catch those gnomes that are gnawing away at our wires.

We didn’t have any company for the holidays.  But we did have lots of fun.  I saw Avatar in 3-D.  We got Chinese food.  We cooked, we snacked, we baked.  It was all good.

I know this isn’t very festive, but Christmas Eve day started out like this.  What a beautiful bird and in the front yard none the less.  The omen, who brought us bad phone luck!

Then we opened presents Christmas morning.  We even had a dusting of snow.

I’ve always wanted to go to Greece, so Frank got me a mini version of the Parthenon.  It’s all crystal and mirrors, pretty smokin’.

Lauren got a sewing machine.  Good thing Frank was home to help her figure it out.  I can sew by hand, but machines are over my head.  They had a great time together.  He totally looks like a seamstress doesn’t he?  I cracked up.  They sewed stuff all night long.  Frank even patched his socks.

Jordan got an aluminum water bottle from my sister.  Track practice ya know and let’s be gentle on the earth.

I spent New Year’s Day at the UU Church doing 108 sun salutes, taking photos and shooting video.  Annual Yoga Mala.  We had a turn out of around 80 and raised $714 for the Ozarks Food Harvest.  Good time was had by all.

Then we got snow for the new year.  Check out  Lauren on the go-kart out back.  What fun she had.

And of course, the  Littlest Pet Shops went out on the trampoline in true winter style.

Enjoy the beauty but stay warm.  The thermostat says something like nothing right now.  As in ZERO.

Spring Equinox Yoga Mala News

tower-471Yoga for a cause.  That’s how I spent my Sunday afternoon along with 60 or so other people!  Together we raised $500 for the Alzheimer’s Chapter of Southwest Missouri.  We had an exceptional view for this Mala as we held our event in the Tower Club, 270 feet high above the city.  We had originally planned on using one of the smaller dining rooms, but nope, we didn’t fit so we moved on into the main dining area.  It was really nice to be in this space, wearing what I like to call my “day pajamas.”

Eric our drummer, is the manager of the Tower Club so that’s how we ended up with the space.  Beth chanted and for the last two rounds Abbe joined her.  I opted out on chanting this time and led a round of 27 sun salutations instead.  I had a nice girl contact me that was looking to enter her photographs in the fair and wanted to shoot a unique event!  That was super nice!  I shot some pictures but she was able to shoot the entire time.  She left me two discs at the YMCA, a total of around 500 photos.

As usual, I didn’t know a bunch of people that showed up.  We had around 60.  There were at least 12 or 15 that were away for Spring Break, so I think we faired pretty well.  Next Mala will be in June, for the Summer Solstice.  Come do some sun salutes, or just sit and chant.

We closed the event with 108 OMs.  We’d like to think that we lowered the crime rate in our city that afternoon!

You can view more Mala photos here.

If you were there, thanks for coming, if not, thanks for viewing.
