Books, Books, Books!!

I buy books.  I hardly use the library as I never know when I’ll have the time to read.  I’ve just straightened up my bookshelf and these have got to go!  I’ve already given several away, but I have this stack left.  If you would like to read any of these books, or know anyone that would, let me know!  I can bring them to yoga class, or meet you someplace convenient for drop off.  I do not want these back!

The Doctor’s Wife/In the Heart of the Sea/Eat, Pray, Love/Dirty Laundry, 100 Days in a Zen Monastery/A Collection of Beauties: At The Height Of Their Popularity/Diary of Ellen Rimbauer (hardback)/The Gospel According to Sydney Welles/Winter’s Bone/Sold/Sweetness in the Belly (hardback)

They were all worth reading – to me anyways!

Labors of Love, Art & Earth

My first mosaic, finished!!

My first mosaic, finished!!

I took advantage of the beautiful weather last night, (cooler with no humidity) to spray a couple coats of sealant on my table.

My husband made the comment (teasing as he does), “The flower isn’t centered.”

I came back (in my mind) with, “Neither are you.”

I didn’t do any measuring, I just freehanded and stuck stuff into adhesive.  All I know is this.  I was very centered when I made it and that’s all that matters!

I had to wait an hour for the sealant to dry, before I could re-apply.  I was already coated in bug spray, so I thought I might as well enjoy the weather and our deck.  I’m really getting into this book.  It’s an old book, like 1970’s but it actually seems timeless, like it could’ve been written yesterday.  I love it so far.

What I'm Reading

What I'm Reading

Then, I had a thought.  I had this book in my hand when I got pulled aside at the airport on our last trip  and searched.  Probably not the best book to carry on an airplane, but who knows.  Perhaps it didn’t have anything to do with it.

Check out that great tomato from our garden!

Lake Taneycomo, Jelly & Dobro

Lake Taneycomo

Lake Taneycomo

I skipped out on teaching my yoga class yesterday morning.  It was a holiday weekend, so lots of people are doing other things, like being out of town.  We had no kids at our house this weekend, so my husband and I loaded up the boat and headed out to Lake Taneycomo.  It really reminds me of a wide river, not a lake.  And since the water is from the bottom of Table Rock Lake, it’s really cold.  Like 55 degrees cold.  Which means, when you get hot, you can’t jump in and swim.  But, you can go fast in your boat and freeze to death!  We had a great day with a haul of 18 trout.  You are only allowed to keep 8.  So we did.  We grilled them for dinner, they were awesome!  Later, we made black raspberry jelly from the berries picked from our yard.  We now have like 16 jars.  I just learned how to make it.  It’s actually really easy and doesn’t take that much time.  Just when you thought the day couldn’t get any better, I heard music flowing from our garage at 10 p.m.  My husband plays some music and the guy next door is in a band.  He brought his dobro over and my husband was playing his guitar.  What a totally busy in a wonderful way kind of day!  My life used to be busy, but it wasn’t what you would call full.  Yesterday was busy and full.  Doesn’t get any better than that!

Son of Rambow

I took my kids to an independent movie theater, The Moxie today.  It’s a small theater where they serve cool eats, beer and wine.  The movie reminded me of a British “Stand By Me” feel good kind of film.  It was cute, funny and a nice change from other movies we see all too often.  My daughter (who is 10) thought the theater was cool because they have art on the walls and soda pop in real glass bottles!  My son (who is 15) didn’t think the movie was as funny as the preview led him to believe, and it had too much drama.  He also said it was, “too British.”  So much for instilling culture into that kid.  But he did ask if I would take him back to see Morgan Spurlock’s “Where in the world is Osama Bin Laden.”  We might be on to something here.

Rain, Rain Go Away

Flood June 13, 2008Enough is enough!  Yesterday, we got 3.88″ of rain in like 6 hours.  I don’t know where they were doing the measuring, but our once empty 5 gallon bucket on our deck had 6.25″!  There is a creek way down back of our property.  It overflowed accordingly as it often does.  The problem doesn’t do much to our place, just makes for an extremely soggy yard.  It does flood out other people in the area and at times like this, I’m glad we don’t have a basement. The water was so high at the intersection South of us, the road had to be closed.  That’s where the creek flows under the road.  Wait, correction.  The creek was flowing over the road!  Cars stallled trying to drive through.  They had to be pushed out.  The water receded quickly once the rain stopped.  All that was left today on the street, were hoses.  Basements being pumped out, carpet strewn out on the sidewalk, stuff like that.  It was beautiful, hot and sunny today.  Tomorrow, they’re calling for another 4″ of rain.  Oh boy.  Happy Father’s Day!

Sex & and the City

Saw it today!  Was not disappointed, went by quickly, loved it!  Predictable?  Yes.  Did I care?  No.  Do I hope they make a sequel?  Yes.  Something to be said for a mozarella and tomato salad for lunch, great conversation and a little shopping topped off with entertainment!  Saturdays like this are far and few.  Our theater was sweltering.  We’ve had a ton of rain, so it’s super humid here in the Midwest.  We complained.  Score for us.  We each received a free movie ticket!  We’ll be back.  Perhaps to see the new Luke Wilson flick.  The name of the film has left me.  Anyhow, an image of Jesus appears on the side of Luke Wilson’s stucco home.  Just what we all need right?  If it happens to me, you can bet, I’ll be cashing in on it!  Just like that image of Jesus that appeared on that grilled cheese sandwich that showed up on ebay.  Check back tomorrow.  Perhaps the mold on the North side of our house is a diety in the making!
